Assistant Golf Coach
School in DeKalb, Illinois is looking for an Assistant Golf Coach.
Position Overview:
Assist head coach in coaching student-athletes, implementation of game strategy, recruiting prospective student-athletes, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, upholding positive image of the sport program in conjunction with other departmental responsibilities as assigned. This is a professional coaching position, and all the duties of the position must adhere to the policies, rules and regulations of affiliated national, regional and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the Mid-American conference (or subsequent member conference) and the university.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coaching – 30%
1. Effectively prepares golfers for each event with dedication to assist the student-athletes to attain their maximum level of athletic performance while successfully competing against major college competitions.
2. Responsible for the ongoing teaching and instruction of student-athletes in the performance of their sport such as, but not limited to, games, practices, individual and team workouts, and conditioning sessions.
Academic Support – 15%
1. Provide an overall positive educational environment for our Student-Athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparing them for life beyond college.
2. Supervise, in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program, the total academic progress of the team implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff.
Team Related Activities – 15%
1. Assist head coach in the preparation of all team-related activities including skill instruction, sport strategy and competitive opportunities.
2. Coach and instruct student-athletes individually/groups demonstrating course management techniques and skills required to be successful in college golf.
3. Plan and attend practice sessions, matches, tournaments, etc. in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations for specified positions.
4. Develop, recommend, and teach strategy.
Administration – 10%
1. Assist in the administration of the entire sport program, including, but not limited to daily practices, game planning and implementation, recruiting, equipment management, facilities scheduling, and budget.
Recruits & PSA – 10%
1. Identify, evaluate, recruit and interview prospective student-athletes and parents/guardians to secure the best possible student-athletes for the Program and University.
Safety & Conduct – 10%
1. Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the department and university.
2. Responsible for the development, safety and conduct of the student-athletes within the golf program.
Departmental Needs – 5%
1. Assist with departmental needs as requested.
2. Cash handling responsibilities $5k-$10K annually.
3. When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate athletic staff are encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for the team efforts.
Public Relations – 5%
1. Perform both direct and indirect public relations functions including promotion, fundraising, public speaking, community events, and through camps and/or clinics.
2. Serve on departmental/campus committees as requested.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in golf as a player, coach or PGA Golf Professional.
Thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference and institutional rules. As a staff member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, you are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations, both those general in nature and those which apply directly to your position’s responsibilities.
Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the NCAA is required and is a condition of your employment.
Ability to communicate with and relate well to the female/male student-athlete.
Ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and electronic forms.
Preferred:
Master’s degree.
Minimum one academic year coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Minimum three academic years coaching experience at a DI, DII, or DIII institution.
Former student-athlete.
Compensation:
$40,000.08 per year.
