Cancer Center Director
University of Cincinnati
Job Overview
Cincinnati, located in the far southwestern corner of Ohio, is at the epicenter of the nation's burgeoning cancer crisis. Ohio ranks tenth in cancer incidence, with neighboring Kentucky at number one and West Virginia at number three. As a premier research institution, the University of Cincinnati recognizes and embraces its responsibility to lead the effort toward developing a deeper understanding of the underlying causes of cancer in the region. Both the University of Cincinnati and the larger community understand the importance of this effort, making this an ideal opportunity for the right applicant to become the next Director of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a growing institution and shape the future of cancer research, care, and prevention, not only in the Greater Cincinnati region but also on a national and global scale.
The Cancer Center Director will lead the University's efforts to achieve National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designation, the institution's top research priority. By securing NCI designation, the university aims to significantly enhance its research capabilities, foster collaboration across disciplines, and provide cutting-edge treatment options for patients. This will involve setting the long-term strategy and vision for the Cancer Center, overseeing operations, and promoting the development of intra- and inter-programmatic research initiatives. The Director will foster a collaborative environment that brings together researchers, clinicians, biostatisticians, pharmacists, and other scientists, both within the institution and externally, to advance novel cancer research while building on the existing cancer research infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will be a highly qualified clinician-scientist and administrator with the leadership experience and expertise necessary to establish a compelling vision for the Center, advance scientific goals, and manage a complex organization. This individual will have demonstrated effectiveness in using institutionally designated authorities to manage the Center and drive its scientific objectives forward. Additionally, the Director will have relevant personal experience, as exemplified by authorship of peer-reviewed publications and a history of successfully securing peer-reviewed research funding. The candidate will be recognized as a noted researcher in their field, with established national and international engagement in cancerrelated activities. They will actively contribute to one or more of the Center's research programs, fostering collaboration across disciplines.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a cancer center at a critical juncture in its journey toward NCI designation, creating lasting impact in the fight against cancer while advancing the quality and scope of research and clinical care.
