Project Overview:

Bechtel Equipment Operations, Inc. (BEO), a wholly owned Bechtel affiliate company, functions as the construction equipment asset manager of Bechtel Group and is actively engaged in projects across all of Bechtel's business lines. In support of its involvement, BEO uses sophisticated estimating and scheduling systems to assist projects in developing bid proposals, equipment lease versus purchase analysis, tool and consumable utilization forecasts, scaffold estimating and supply, and overall construction fleet utilization plans. Headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas, BEO also manages several permanent global equipment storage and support facilities.

 

Job Summary:

The Fleet Equipment Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of construction equipment and fleet assets across both domestic and international projects. This role is essential in ensuring optimal utilization of fleet resources, effective lifecycle planning, and strict compliance with safety and environmental standards. The manager works closely with project teams, regional leadership, and global business units (GBUs) to ensure that equipment operations are aligned with broader business objectives. This is a full-time, in-office position based at the Bechtel Equipment Operations (BEO) office in Sugar Land, TX.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. 

 

Major Responsibilities:  

Strategic Planning & Operations

  • Develops and implements fleet acquisition, deployment, and disposal strategies.
  • Provides technical consultation and strategic planning for optimal fleet utilization across projects and regions.
  • Shapes and implements business models and work processes that enhance equipment efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Participates in Six Sigma Process Improvement Programs and supports lessons learned and best practice initiatives.

Project Support & Execution

  • Prepares and reviews equipment plans, cost estimates, schedules, and budgets.
  • Supports construction and estimating teams with technical input and training.
  • Interfaces with project controls to align equipment operations with project timelines and financial goals.
  • Directs the preparation and evaluation of vendor bids and ensures compliance with specifications.

Fleet Management

  • Fleet deployment, life cycle, and asset disposal. 
  • Oversees equipment allocation, maintenance systems for repairs, and service documentation.
  • Ensures fleet utilization tracking and reporting are accurate and up to standard.
  • Manages equipment-related contracts and profit/loss performance.
  • Supervises the administration and availability of fleet assets across multiple sites.

Leadership & Compliance 

  • Leads and mentors a team of managers, supervisors, and technical professionals.
  • Makes staffing decisions, conducts performance appraisals, and manages resource allocation.
  • Ensures adherence to safety policies, environmental regulations, and corporate procedures.
  • Promotes a Zero Accident Philosophy and maintains high standards for equipment safety and operational readiness.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or international equivalent).
  • Certified Equipment Manager (CEM) certification preferred.
  • Experience with cranes, heavy haul operations, and multinational workforce management is a plus.
  • Level 1: Typically requires bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
  • Level 2: Typically requires bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant work experience or 19 + years of relevant work experience.

 

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to influence across functions.
  • Deep knowledge of construction equipment, fleet lifecycle management, and vendor negotiations.
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including executive-level interaction.
