K–8 Music Teacher Job Description:
The Music Teacher at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is responsible for leading the music program for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum, focusing on artistic development through performance, composition, and coaching student progress in musical skills.
Responsibilities:
Deliver a comprehensive music program following the documented curriculum.
Develop and teach lessons with clear, measurable learning objectives.
Regularly assess student progress and provide timely progress reports and report cards.
Collaborate weekly with colleagues in the Specials department and communicate effectively with the assigned Assistant Director.
Implement the school’s assertive discipline model consistently to maintain a positive learning environment.
Participate actively in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Director.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and recommend effective solutions.
Capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, and the wider community.
Familiarity with relevant school policies, state and federal regulations, and MVRCS procedures.
Demonstrated collaboration, teaching, coaching, and leadership abilities to support student growth and teamwork.
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Knowledge of specialized content and applicable laws and educational procedures.
Proven ability to design and deliver lessons tailored to diverse student needs and aligned with district goals.
Successful completion of required MTEL tests within the first year of employment.
This position reports to the Assistant Director, is evaluated annually, and is subject to yearly appointment.
